Catherine Losing
Catherine Losing is an artist who assembles objects into different positions to make the photographs more interesting. She works using cosmetics, food and other random objects to create bright and colourful compositions. She photographs for British Vogue, Lacoste, ES Magazine and many more.
Worst Photograph.
This image is my least favourite as it is not as bright and vibrant as other photos produced by Losing. Additionally, I do not like the props used in the composition, however, I like how it is assembled as everything is clear and there is no main focus point.
Best Photographs.
These two images are my favourites out of Catherine Losing's as I really like how bright the compositions are. In both photos,
Anna Lomax.
Anna Lomax is an artist similar to Catherine Losing. She works with different objects to put the focus on a main product which is usually an accessory. She works with pale, pastel colours a which fit well together. Other work she does involves models, she uses shape and pattern to assemble the piece and make the composition very strange. This makes the viewer look twice at the image and see it in different ways. I find her work very interesting and I am inspired by a lot of the work she has done.
Best Photograph.
This is my favourite photograph in this shoot as I really like the way the photo is assembled as
Worst Photograph.
I do not like this image as much as some of the others as I do not feel like it is as well assembled as some of her other images.
Anna and Catherine.
Anna Lomax and Catherine Losing have worked together on multiple occasions on photographs. A shoot they done together was Floral Studies. This used a collection of flowers, mirrors and water to create reflected and real flowers, cleverly assembled into a beautiful order.
Best Photograph.
This is my favourite composition of the shoot as it is cleverly assembled. At first glance, the photo appears to have roses laid out in a circle, however, when you look closer into the image, you can see it only one rose in the centre of two mirrors, I like how this image comes together perfectly to show the rose at every angle by using the mirrors. Additionally, I like how the water is also used to create light reflections and again, make the photograph more interesting.
Worst Photograph.
In my opinion, this is the worst photograph of the shoot as I do not like the layout of the flowers as I do not feel it is as effective as some of the other photos in the shoot. Although it is a beautiful image, it lacks the different perspective of the photo. Also, I do not like how dark this image is, I personally prefer the brighter, more vibrant images. Additionally, I do not like how the roses in the foreground are out of focus.

Shoot One.
Planning.
For my first shoot, I decided that I was going to work in the style of Catherine Losing. The image that inspired my the most was the image of the lipstick behind a glass slate with the lipstick smeared on it for ES magazine. This is because I really liked the way the vibrant colours contrasted the white background, making them stand out even more noticeable, in addition to the lipstick smeared glass making the image really interesting in the way it is assembled. For my shoot, I want to use a variety of coloured makeup, similar to Catherine, however, I want to use a backboard and a plastic sheet where I can smudge the makeup.I will do this shoot in an area surrounded with bright lights so that the light will make the colours brighter and make the composition look more professional. I will also need a backboard to stick the makeup onto to assemble it how I want to. I will use two lipsticks crossing over one another and an eye-shadow underneath to make the composition look more complete. I will then use other lipsticks to smear around the makeup behind the plastic sheet.

The Shoot.
Editing.
To edit this piece, I decided to change selected colours so that the colours were brighter and stand out more rather than the neutral colour in the original photograph. I also changed the vibrancy, brightness and contrast of the image so that the image was much brighter.
Final Image.
Shoot Two.
Planning.
In this shoot, I want to assemble sequins into patterns to explore different shapes that could be created using only stars.
Worst Photo.
This is the worst photo from the shoot as I do not like the way the light caught the sequins as you cannot see the holographic reflections that the stars gave off. As well as this, the stars at the back are out of focus, which is not what I intended whilst doing the shoot. This image is also off centre and at an angle that I do not like.
Best Photo.
This is one of my better photographs of the shoot as, although some of the stars are out of focus, you can see the holographic reflections of the stars more clearly, as well as the pattern assembled in the shot.
Shoot Three.
Planning.
I decided to assemble a shoe and a flower to represent how the flower is grown inside the shoe. This image was inspired by Anna Lomax as she uses random objects and shoes and makes them the main subject of the composition. I tried using different lighting to show the image in different ways, for example, I used natural light, I also used a dark atmosphere with a strong torch to light the composition as well as a soft light in addition to a torch to cast more shadows. In the end, I felt that I preferred the soft night as it had a perfect exposure in these shots.
The Shoot.
Final Image.
This is my favourite image from the shoot as it shows what I wanted to represent really well. In this image, I really like the aperture as it has a shallow depth of field and the flower in the background is partly out of focus which makes the viewer look at the shoe first, which is the main focus of the composition. I also used the rule of thirds by lining up the flower's step with some power spots.
Exam Planning.
For my exam, I want to use portrait photos with roses to create a collage of these photos with a variety of roses. I then wanted to edit these images so that the images are black and white apart from the red rose.
